Strategies for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- To book the most suitable rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the perfect rental in the Charleston area area:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Charleston - Minutes to the Beach - Quiet - Safe - Private Neighborhood - Modern has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is best for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
