How to get the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To book the most suitable rental home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestvacation home:
- First, have your family commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. King 583 - Studio Standard has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
