Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Finding the best value:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- To book the best rental for your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting the perfect rental in Charleston:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. King 583 - Studio Standard has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
