Charleston vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Charleston. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • To start, have your family select trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Fire Tower 1 Bed \/ 1 Bath in Downtown Charleston has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
