Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Filter your rental search:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. King 583 - Studio Deluxe has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
