Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To book the best rental home for your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting and booking yourvacation home:

  • First, have your group decide on dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Cozy Charleston Cottage on the East Side has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, email the host before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
