Tips for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. To book the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental in Charleston:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Cozy Charleston Cottage on the East Side has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. text the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
