Tips and Tricks for getting the best Charleston vacation property experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the largest rental within budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting the perfect rental in the Charleston area area:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Downtown Charleston Gem - Perfect 1 Bedroom! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
