Strategies to get the perfect rental home experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, picking, and booking your prefectrental home:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Guest's Favorite
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
Advice for your stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
