Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the best rental:
- First, have your group select a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. WILD DUNES Home with PRIVATE POOL, Golf Views and Walk to Marina! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is suitable for your family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
