Tips to get the perfect Charleston area rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To find the best rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the best rental in the Charleston area area:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beautiful Penthouse Condo Just Steps to King has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the host before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
