Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Downtown Historic Home Steps to King St has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.

  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
