Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Get the best value:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Charleston. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Choose a group leader, select your dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Downtown Historic Home Steps to King St has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
