Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best rental home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Downtown Condo Steps to King St Restaurants & Bars has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
