Strategies to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • To find the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and picking the perfectvacation home:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. 1 Block to Bars & Shopping
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you long to visit, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
