Tips and Tricks for getting the best Charleston vacation property experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Book your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. 3 Bedroom - Newly Renovated - Close to King Street has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area destination you long to visit, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
