Tips to get the best vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your group commit to the best dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Downtown Charleston Charm: 2 Bed\/1 Bath has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your trip.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
Advice for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
