How to find the best vacation property experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the largest rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to choose the perfect rental in Charleston:

  • Begin by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Downtown Charleston Beauty - Professional Design! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. If not, contact the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
