Tricks and tips to get the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. Reserve your Charleston area rental property in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Corner of King St! 3BD\/3.5BA - Walk Everywhere! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or applied to your contract.
Additional considerations:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. text the property manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
