Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, change your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting and booking the right Charleston area vacation home:

  • To start, have your group decide on vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Close to The Citadel
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area destination you are enamored with, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. text the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
