Strategies to get the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Finding the best rental:
- First, have your group commit to trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Beautifully Furnished Townhouse on James Island, 3 minutes to Downtown. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
