Strategies for getting the best Isle of Palms rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose and book your prefect Charleston area rental:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Adorable Family Beach Home! Close to the Beach! Community Pool & Tennis! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If not, email the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your trip.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
