About this Property

  • Private vacation home

Summary:
Charming studio English Basement suite located in a completely modernized 1850's antebellum mansion.

No detail was overlooked in the remodel of this historic home in Charleston's Cannonborough neighborhood, featuring charmingly restored cypress wall panelling, a bespoke-kitchenette with high-end finishes, French Baroque inspired-tin ceiling paneling, and exquitie bath finishes including reclaimed 1854 Vermont roofing slate from the home and a polished nickel British high-tank water closet.

The Space:
The rental features a queen bed with premium linens & all the amenities of a boutique hotel - quality bath products & towels, hair dryer, iron, wi-fi, premium TV channels with the added convenience of an exclusive and private outdoor patio sitting area.

Set back from the street, this comfortable efficiency provides a true Charleston experience for guests without breaking the bank! Easily walkable to MUSC, College of Charleston, King Street’s most trendy retail, eateries & more.

Guest Access:
Guests can access all areas shown in the photos. Access to this exclusive space is from the back porch down the spiral stair.

The Neighborhood:
Visitors can shop for tailored menswear at Indigo & Cotton located directly next door and across from the apartment; indulge in the city’s most appealing bakery – Sugar Bakeshop - located just across the street from the rental; and peruse the selection of handmade bags and leather goods at J. Stark, just down the block.

Many of the city’s most notable eateries are located in the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood, or an painless walk from the rental. In an October 2017 Thrillist article on where to eat in and around Charleston now – 11 of the 29 Charleston eateries listed are in simple walking distance to the home (the rest, an easy car or cab ride away): O-Ku, Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, Chez Nous, The Darling Oyster Bar, The Grocery, Indaco, The Ordinary, Xiao Bao Biscuit, Warehouse, Chubby Fish.

Getting Around:
We are only 3 blocks from Upper King Street, so most guests prefer to walk and discover the city. The beach is 15 mins. away by car. There is also a complimentary shuttle offered by the city that runs along King Street (3 blocks away) to fashionable stops. Bicycle units are available close by or you might savor trying a pedicab taxi. We offer complimentary parking on site or in the lot we manage across the street.

Other Things to Note:
Please note:

* One off street space supplied in the most difficult area of Charleston to find parking! Additional parking available across the street in our private lot at $20/day.

* This efficiency requires guests to access from the spiral staircase pictured here. This is the only access to the rental.

* This space is a patio apartment located in a half-basement with tons of light.

*There is an additional unit above this rental in the same home. If you happen to be traveling with a bigger event, we'd be happy to coordinate a rental to accommodate your friends or family.

*The bathroom of this space adjoins Ladles Soups' kitchen. Occasionally a sound or two may be heard emanating from the kitchen; however, this space is completely cordoned off and separated from this very tasty soup, salad, and sandwich shop.

* All Charleston homes in the historic footprint of the city - which this rental falls into - must abide by strict renovation mandates. As such all of our units must feature single pane glass to reflect the look and feel of the original home dating back to the 1800s. As such, noise does travel and we ask that all guests who rent from us here and at our properties adjacent please be respectful of neighbors at all times and especially watch noise levels when coming and going after 9 p.m. for the enjoyment of all guests.

* Loud noise and partying will not be tolerated.

Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Charleston. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The Patio Suite Summa has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is right for your family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Advice for your stay:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
