Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by having your group select trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Lady Helène
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
