Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting the perfect rental in Charleston:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Unit A
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you long to visit, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. text the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
