Booking the best rental experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- To get the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting the perfect rental in the Charleston area area:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. The Gardenia House
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. If not, email or call the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
