Our top Charleston area vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to visit & When to book:
- The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Blackberry Suite At Morrison Manor On Second Floor has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
