Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The Iris, Signature Suite has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is suitable for your trip.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
