Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:

  • To get the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking the perfect Charleston area vacation home:

  • Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Quality Design - Downtown - Steps to King St! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If not, email or call the host before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is right for your vacation family.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area destination you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
