Booking the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning and picking a perfect Charleston area rental home:
- First, have your group decide on the best dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Quality Design - Downtown - Steps to King St! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If not, email or call the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your family.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you crave, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
