Tricks and tips to get the optimal Charleston area vacation home experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Perfectly centered between Historic Downtown Charleston and Folly Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- To make sure no damages are linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
