Rental home tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning and picking the rightvacation home:

  • Choose your dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. The Historic St. Philip House - One Block Off King Street has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
