Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, change your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Modern Townhome close to Folly Beach and dwntn Charleston! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
