Finding the best Charleston area rental experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Planning and choosing the perfect Charleston area rental:
- Choose vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Little Rosemary Suite
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
During your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
