How to get the best Charleston vacation property experience:

Find your best deal:

  • Booking in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the best Charleston area rental home:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Island Nest — King Bed has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area destination you simply love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your contract.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
