Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family commit to the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Folly Beach Condo with Water Views! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you love, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
