Tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To book the most suitable vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the best vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Downtown Historic Home Close to Neighborhood Shops has 10 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
