Strategies for getting the perfect Charleston vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. THE INNS - 10 BR Downtown Home - Amazing Location! has 10 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
