Getting the best Charleston area rental home experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Selecting the best rental home:

  • Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Downtown Charleston One Block to King St. Free Off Street Parking has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
