Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best rental within budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Downtown Charleston 8 Bedroom has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
