Charleston area rental property booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing and booking your prefect Charleston area vacation home:

  • Begin by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Comfy & Cozy Right Downtown Charleston OP2019-00450 has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is optimal for your family.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
