Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Charleston area vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Make a plan and choose yourrental home:
- Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Comfy & Cozy Right Downtown Charleston OP2019-00450 has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you love, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
