Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to pick the best vacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Walk to Everything Upper King! Off street parking and washer\/dryer! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If not, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
