Strategies to get the best Charleston vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Summer is high season in Charleston. Booking in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Boutique Condo on King Street 30 day minimum has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Call the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
