How to get the best Charleston vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and pick the rightrental home:
- First, have your family select trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Comfy, Cozy, Captivating
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a particular Charleston area beach you are enamored with, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Contact the host right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
