Finding the best Charleston vacation home experience:

When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is right for your group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
