Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a group leader, select your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oikos - 19 Bedrooms in Downtown Charleston has 19 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area destination you are crazy about, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your stay:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
