Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
Money saving strategies:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book the bestrental:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Penthouse with Courtyard - 1 BLOCK TO KING ST! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Have a fantastic stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
