Our top Charleston area rental booking tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Cozy 1-bedroom Guesthouse with WiFi\/AC near Downtown Charleston has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. Otherwise, call the host before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or applied to your agreement.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Contact the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
