How to get the best Isle of Palms vacation home experience:

When to reserve a Charleston area rental home & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • To start, have your group agree to a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. AMAZING Ocean Front View! 2BR Summerhouse Villa in Wild Dunes! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
