Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have coupons for local tours and attractions.

How to choose the best rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • Start by having your group select date ranges and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. 103G Port O Call - 1st floor condo, screen porch w\/ steps to the beach! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
