Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing and booking a perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Lemonade Suite: Your Refreshing Escape! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
