Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Planning, selecting, and booking the best Charleston area rental home:
- Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. The Iris, Signature Suite has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
