Isle of Palms rental home booking tips:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sand Dune & Sea Shell by AvantStay
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- To make certain damages are not linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
