Whether exploring our handsome historic city (6mi north) or splashing in the ocean (7mi east), you can’t go wrong with a stay here on James Island, a striking barrier island of Charleston. We've prepared a private space in our pet and smoke-complimentary home which includes one bedroom with a comfortable queen bed, a full bath with shower/tub and a cozy TV lounge that offers a breakfast/work table and a coffee station with mini-refrigerator and microwave. You’ll find your rooms to be immaculately clean & fresh.
Do you prefer the City or the Beach? We’ll take BOTH!
If you’re ready for a anxiety-complimentary adventure in the “Low Country” of South Carolina you’ve found the right place! Our home is just over the bridge from historic downtown Charleston.
You can conveniently spend a day or two exploring our charming “Holy City”, named for the abundance of church steeples. The average Uber/Lyft fare to get there is just around $10. Bring your walking shoes, because once there, it’s painless to wander in and out of stores, alleys, pubs, gardens, museums and along the historic waterfront. Old Town Charleston is relatively compact, so a car isn’t really necessary. And if you need a break from walking there’s always a pedi-cab ready to carry you to your next destination.
Or…you can head for the ocean and discover Folly Beach, just 7 miles east and roughly $15 for a 20 min. Uber/Lyft ride. Folly is our laid-back coastal beach community, dubbed the “Edge of America” by locals. It is an active beach town with plenty of stores, eateries and music to keep you entertained, along with a striking coastline and plenty of sandy beach for sunbathing, swimming or walking.
So, you see? Whether you’re looking for a historical, cultural, educational, musical, theatrical or gastronomical adventure or you just want to kick back, build sand castles, splash in the water, eat some great seafood and listen to beach music, you can’t go wrong!
We’re also within a half hour to 45-min. drive from Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley and Johns, Wadmalaw, Seabrook and Kiawah Islands!
Want to kick your relaxation up a notch? Then arrangements can be made for an in-home therapeutic Swedish massage by a Licensed Massage Therapist. Please make this request during our initial communications.
Enter through our front door ~ just like you live here! There are no keys to find or keep track of ~ just your private lock code for the keyless entry. The scent from an aromatherapy diffuser will create your first impression as you enter. Your space is blocked off by sliding, locked doors, and we use an alternate entry when guests are visiting, so you will savor a completely private experience.
We strive to create an eco-friendly suite, using natural, chemical-complimentary products for cleaning and laundering. The toothpaste, soaps and shampoo/conditioner supplied are chemical-complimentary as well.
You are welcome to sit outside on our front porch and watch the world go by. There are two chairs and a side table for your comfort. The only requirement is that you must wave to our neighbors as they go by walking their doggies…
TV Parlor:
Unwind and have your morning drink in our TV lounge. We've outfitted the coffee/tea bar with the supplies necessary to make your stay comfortable. The Keurig-like coffee maker is fast and hot and “pods” are included. You’ll find fresh filtered water in the refrigerated Brita pitcher. The microwave accepts for quick heat-ups for your drinks or any food you may choose to bring in. Our guests use these items frequently to prepare simple meals. There’s also a popcorn popper for those late-nighttime hunger pangs.
We provide you with bottled water, coffee and tea and all the plates, bowls, coffee cups, drinking glasses, silverware, silverware and towels you should need as well as salt, pepper, popcorn, raw sugar, cocoa and local honey.
Grocery stores, gas station markets, liquor stores, Walgreens and plenty of varied eateries are within 1 to 3 miles for any other vacation cravings.
You’ll have a Samsung 34” flat panel TV in the lounge. We use HD Antennas to pull in our 13 local TV stations and ROKU for many more interesting tv and movie options, along with Netflix. (there’s no cable tv). Wifi 5G is available. And if you want to unplug, we’ve added books and games to the mix ~ there’s even a yoga mat if you feel so inclined!
The couch in this room folds open to become a twin sized bed. Extra linens, blankets pillows and pillowcases for the couch are furnished. There’s a breakfast/work table with two dining chairs and an additional side chair for your comfort.
The closet in the TV Parlor can be used for your storage while visiting. There are also folding chairs, a modest cooler and a beach bag with bamboo mats, towels and swim noodles for two to relax at Folly Beach during your stay.
We keep the temperature at 71 during the day and 68 at nighttime. Ceiling fans are overhead for added comfort.
The Suite:
Your suite consists of the front entryway and hallway, one bedroom with a queen sized bed, a tv lounge with coffee station and couch that folds out to a twin sized bed and a full bathroom with shower/tub. You'll find everything needed for a short or long stay; a ideal getaway for business or enjoyment travelers.
You’ll find your rooms to be immaculately clean and fresh. Ours is a pet- and smoke-complimentary home. We’ll also do our best to keep cooking smells to a minimum during your stay.
The Neighborhood:
In 1979 our cozy home was constructed as the model home for this well-established residential community. Our home is a legally allowed short term rental property with off-street parking alongside our driveway. You’ll notice Spanish moss-covered live oaks lining many of the streets along your drive.
We expect our guests to be respectful of our home and neighbors and we will enforce the home rules of no events, amplified music or loud noises and no smoking. Any breach of the home rules will result in a forfeit of your security deposit in full.
We live in a safe and peaceful neighborhood which is great for morning and evening walks or runs. And if you’re a run/walker we’re in the middle of multiple beautiful locations for longer treks; the James Island County Park, West Ashley Greenway, Ft. Lamar Heritage Preserve and Sunrise Park…but more on that later…
Charleston is a foodie town. It’s difficult to find a bad meal here because there is such intense competition amongst the area eateries. So eat up! Within 3 miles you can find BBQ, Bagels, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Mexican, Burgers, Seafood and they’re all locally owned, non-chain, yumminess!
And if you want to hit the gym after all that food, there’s Golds Gym, O2 Exercise, Pivotal Exercise, Orange Theory and Cross Fit James Island somewhere down the road.
Transportation:
Uber and Lyft are everywhere these days and so, available for your vacation needs as well. The average Uber fee from our home to the Charleston International Airport (18mi / 30min) usually runs about $30. A trip to Folly Beach (7mi / 20min) is roughly $15 and to downtown Charleston (6mi / 11min) is just around $10. Uber Eats is also available for food delivery!
Though there are no traditional hop-on, hop-off bus tours in Charleston, they do have a complimentary city trolley called the CARTA DASH Trolley. These travel through the historic part of Charleston, accepting you to to see much of what you would on the other guided tours, though without any commentary. However, if you use their Self-Guided Tour of Historic Charleston during your ride, you’ll never know the difference!
There are 3 different routes that the trolley takes:
• Route 210 (Orange) drives from College of Charleston to the Aquarium.
• Route 211 (Green) will take you to the waterfront, Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, and City Market
• Route 213 (Purple) connects Brittlebank Park and Riley Stadium to the historic city center.
Each of these routes meet at the Visitors Center, Marion Park and Charleston Museum. Maps are available at each of these locations. You can search Free Tours By Foot for more information.
We've always got our ears perked for new/better/interesting information to offer our guests. There will be maps, brochures, menus, promos and the latest City Paper in your lounge when you arrive.
Please Note: While I typically do not meet my guests, due to my work schedule, I am available via text and quick to respond in an efficient manner to your requests, questions or needs.
We look forward to having you as our guests!

Charleston rental property booking tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking the best Charleston area rental home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Relax in Your Own Private Suite in Charleston's James Island! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
