Tricks and tips for getting the best Charleston area rental home experience:

When to visit Charleston & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your group choose date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Innkeepers Quarters Queen Suite with Breakfast has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area destination you long to visit, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
